INFORMATION for Travel and Hotels for the October 30-31, 2014 Queer Migrations Symposium:
Getting from Tucson International Airport into town: Car rental Taxi Shuttle Public bus (called sun tran) Click here for further details.
Here is a list of places to stay in Tucson and near the UA campus.
Tucson does not have extensive public transportation, so we recommend trying to book a hotel near the university.* The two nearest hotels are the Marriott on University Ave and ALoft on Speedway Blvd. There is also a guesthouse near the university: The Peppertrees. A little further away but still within walking distance (under a mile) is gay-owned Catalina Park Inn. By summer, a streetcar that runs between the university and downtown is supposed to start operating. If that is up and running, it will make downtown hotels and guesthouses very accessible (otherwise, you may need a taxi). The Royal Elizabeth is a lesbian owned guesthouse downtown; some people also particularly enjoy staying at the Hotel Congress downtown (suggestion: make sure to ask for a room that’s not over Club Congress).
The Tucson Marriott has offered attendees a special rate of $129/night! Just contact Bonnie (info below), mentioning the “University of Arizona Queer Migrations Symposium” and asking for the special rate.
